This is a painting of the Abbey Street on Saturday night in early spring. It’s that crossover point where busy shoppers are heading home while others are coming in to enjoy the nightlife.

This is an impressionist painting but I still endeavoured to present the scene in Abbey street in a realistic, non romantic light. It depicts people waiting at the Luas stop waiting patiently for the trams, looking forward to going home. I felt the lighting on Abbey street was quite cinematic at that hour of the night and reminded me a little of film noire movies and thrillers, Heat, Taxi Driver and  Blade Runner spring to mind.
