Pastel and Ink Drawing - The Piano Lesson by

I love music deeply. I am not picky about what kind of music I listen to regarding styles. Classical, Indi-rock, Jazz,  Sean-nós, Pop, seriously anything if I can find a decent melody or a clever lyric… I will listen to it.

I did this painting in 2021, completing it just before I was hit with a blood clot in reaction to the Astra-Zeneca vaccine and just before my father died of ALS. Music was how I could link with him when I could not travel to Ireland to be with him.

This picture was inspired by a found image of a young woman at a piano, it was used as the cover photo for a Spotify playlist but reminded me of the hours that my Da had made my brother practice playing the piano. I had felt jealous of the time my brother was able to spend with Da, but also glad that I wasn’t being forced to do something like learning the piano which was hard work when it ought to have been fun.
