My why

I love making art. What do I enjoy?

The celebration of Beauty. The chance to express my awe with life and our world. I believe that beauty is vital for being, for living every day of one’s life, if anything - it’s the beauty that will save the world, just like Dostoevsky promised

The magic of creation. Art is a perfect medium. A painting is raw emotion wrapped in a skill. An artwork gives physical expression to my experience of the world. It is the imprint of my vision, emotions, thoughts and my voice sculpted in colors, brushstrokes, light and shades.

I also believe that being very true and honest on canvas initiates a dialogue. That people looking at my work then respond to it with sincerity, curiosity, attention, imagination and wonder. I believe art opens us all up and makes us more alive.

Bio

I have been always passionate about art and have been doing it since childhood. I developed as an artist through practice, reflection and have some formal art education.

I was born in Estonia and studied at the studio of Valeri Smirnov, graphic artist, poster and print maker, who was the head of the Russian Artist association in Estonia. He thaught kids classical Russian academic drawing, and I attended there for 5 years(1992-1996).

In 2005 I moved to beautiful Ireland for good. Few years later I enrolled to National College of Art and Design and completed a 3 year Visual Art Certificate, including modules in Soft Pastels, Drawing, Painting, Visual Culture, Sculpture and Printmaking (2009-2011).

Currently I mainly work in Oils. My favourite subject is landscape, but I do figurative paintings, stillives and animals. I do commission(create artworks on request). In my paintings I approach the subject as contemporary impressionist: pursue loose painting style , interaction of light and shadow and use vibrant colours.
