Description
This painting was a combination of plein air and studio work. I started it on a July afternoon, setting up my easel in Dillon’s Park on the Colimore Road in Dalkey. It gave a perfect view of Dalkey island. I produced most of the painting there and then returned to the studio where I spent some hours in the following days completing the work. On reflection, I think the painting has a real flavour of French Impressionism. For me, it is reminiscent of those landscapes depicting the Cote D’Azur which I’ve always admired. Maybe painting plein air had a subconcious effect on the creative process!
