Ben Linehan studied at the DIT College of Art and graduated with a BA in graphic design and illustration. After working in several Advertising Agencies as an Art Director, I first began oil painting in 2005 and have completed several art courses including workshops at Kennedy’s Art, Harcourt St. and a three month course at the Dún Laoghaire institute of Art, Design & Technology. I work from my studio in Sandycove, Co. Dublin and also attended Ireland’s annual plein air festival in Wexford in 2016. My subject matter is primarily landscape, along with some portraiture, and my work mostly consists of oil painting. “Whether working from preliminary sketches, photography or plein air, my foremost ambition is to record a time and place while creating a distinct narrative by means of carefully considered mark making. My influences stem mainly from the impressionist style, engaging light and colour is fundamental to my work”. My interest in painting began during trips to the Wexford Festival, “I was incredibly stimulated by the volume of art throughout the town, I felt compelled to pick up a palette and paint brush." I strive to bring a fresh, personal and creative approach to my painting, as an artist I try to look at the world and perhaps see something that a camera might otherwise miss”.
