Description
This painting depicts a view from the upper level of the Victor Emmanuel monument in Rome. Also known as the wedding cake, the landmark is immense in size and an iconic Roman attraction. The terrace floor is constructed of marble, and when creating the painting, I wanted to keep a fluid, loose treatment to convey that feature. Composition is always important to me when I am painting. I can almost imagine an imaginary diagonal line from the bottom left-hand corner to the top right that connects the three figures and then the statue of Victor Emmanuel on his horse.
