“This is an idea that came to me some 7 years ago. I was at a Halloween party in a costume I’d handmade myself, with me having fully painted my own face.  A guy complemented on how good it was and I responded, “well, I’m an artist; that’s my job”.  He immediately asked if I’d do a commission of a Munster line out. He took out his phone and showed me a painting he’d seen a few weeks prior but hadn’t bought because he wanted Paul O’Connor at the top.  I showed him some of work, explained my process and that it would be in that style (and not water colour as he’d showed me).  We shook hands and he took my card.

I always like to hold something back for the big reveal with commissions where I can and it dawned on me that Munster’s logo is a stag. I was suddenly fierce excited with the idea that I could capture all the motion and power of a line out by having the stag come to life, roaring in the background with the flow and energy of the players.

Anyway; said commissioner never got back to me and it remained an idea, just stuck in my head, itching to get out. Well; what better time to bring it to life than an exhibition in Cork City Hall of October 2023? And who better to crest the line out than Cork born, Munster and Ireland legend Peter O’Mahony on a weekend that saw him earn his 100th cap for Ireland!?”

Measuring 73 cm x 103cm in total, this unique, one-off artwork is presented in a beautiful, black tray / floating frame and is ready to hang as pictured.
