Shashi Rami

I am a professional actor and voice artist by trade, and I began painting as a way to decompress and exercise some frustrated creativity.

It now seems like an obvious progression, as I see all the arts blending together as one larger form of expression — as long as you are being truthful.

My work is abstract and based on movement and colour. I generally begin without a plan and love working with oils. I’m drawn to their texture, their smell, and the way they move across the canvas. I am also deeply drawn to the sea, sky and land, and these elements often influence the feeling and palette of my work. Sometimes, once the oils have dried, I draw over the work with chalk or pencil. However, oils form the basis of all my work.
