Description
This painting captures the quiet grandeur of Doolough Valley in Co. Mayo, a remote and hauntingly beautiful landscape in the west of Ireland. This area is widely known for its association with the tragedy of the Famine.
The composition is reflective of ancient times that features a dirt track which snakes gently through rough, grassy terrain in the foreground. The valley itself is flanked by Mweelrea Mountain (814m)—Connacht’s highest peak—to the west and the Sheeffry Hills (specifically the Sheefry Mountains) to the east.
This piece is painted with oil paints on Stretched Belgian Linen.
It measures 45.5cm x 37.6cm
