Description

This is a painting of an evening in Pearse Street near the Grand Canal in Dublin in late August of 3022. I originally painted this as an impressionist/realist painting but I wasn’t entirely happy with it. I felt there was too much detail and the viewers eye was being pulled around the painting to different subject matters. What i really wanted the subject to be was the bright yellow bus heading up towards Ringsend Garage which is just over the bridge behind the viewpoint of the painting.
So I basically repainted about 85% of the painting, simplifying and slightly abstracting the outer parts of the painting. To my surprise this added considerably to the mood and impact of the painting. I found the simpler shapes much pleasing to the eye. I kept and even added more detail in the areas I wanted the viewer to focus on.
