Description
A representation of the renowned Rock-a-Bill Lighthouse, located five kilometers off the coastline of Skerries in North County Dublin. This particular artwork piece took three days to complete. Upon finishing, I applied an isolation coat and then covered the painting with an acrylic gloss varnish to enhance its final appearance.
The Lighthouse construction commenced in 1855 and was completed in 1860, utilizing granite sourced from the Mourne Mountains in County Down and limestone from the Milverton Quarry, situated just outside the town of Skerries. The total expenditure at the time for the construction amounted to £13,248. The Lighthouse became operational on July 1st, 1860. Rock-a-Bill is actually comprised of two adjacent islands, known as Rock and Bill. The Lighthouse itself sits on the larger of the two islands as depicted in the painting.
