The vivid red of these gladiolus caught my attention right away. It was such an intense, striking color that I couldn’t pass it by. This time I wanted to approach the painting a little differently — less precise, more abstract, even imperfect in places. The brushstrokes are loose, the shapes almost fleeting, because I wanted the flowers to feel like a sudden burst of color that appeared for a moment and stayed on the canvas.
