Description
This is a small to medium oil on canvas painting. I was taking a walk along the road up to the Powerscourt House in Enniskerry when my attention was caught by some trees and the warm light settling behind them.
I wanted to capture the atmosphere rather than the detail so I used a palette knife to begin with, for about the first 80% of the painting. It’s very hard to get bogged down in detail with a palette knife, your forced to work fast and loose. This makes the painting far more impressionist and expressive, and more enjoyable, in my opinion. The remainder of the painting was done with usually small dabs of paint using a brush to soften out some of the hard edges left by the palette knife.
I am happy that the painting captures the warm, relaxing scene as I experienced it.
