A scene from late summer. These two lads were playing with a ragged tennis ball – throwing it between themselves and allowing the dog (Benjy I believe) to race between them in the hope of the occasional missed catch. My initial sketches easily spanned one page, but as the game progressed, the lads challenged each other to ‘go back a bit’ – hence the elongated scene and the two paintings.
