Madonna in Glory (Virgin Mary)- Baroque Oil Painting, copy after Carlo Dolci, an artist from the 17th century (1600s), religious classical art
About the original oil painting:
Carlo Dolci was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active mainly in Florence, known for highly finished religious pictures, often repeated in many versions.
About the painting:
Painted using the old techniques of scumbling and glazing to fully visualize the finished painting, a technique that reached its peak in the 19th century.
Scumbling – modify a painting by applying a very thin coat of opaque paint to give a softer or duller effect. (e.g. like in the forehead, the cream light color).
Glazing – modify a painting by a thin transparent or semi-transparent layer on a painting which modifies the appearance of the underlying paint layer. (e.g. a yellow glaze over the red cloth to give that orange glow, while at the same time making the shadows richer).
The oil painting is on stretched linen canvas (100% linen) artist quality.
The halo is painted with gold oil paint (gold leaf mixed with the oil medium) and burnished to produce the shine.
The halo has a red under-painted layer to allow the warmth of the red color to come through.
