Description
This painting emerged during a deep shadow work journey, reflecting the sacred marriage between my feminine self and the animus, as understood through Jung’s coniunctio (sacred union). At this stage, the animus still held significant control — he clutches her bleeding heart, symbolizing the lingering possession and power he once had over her.
Yet, there is a shift here: whereas the animus was once dominant, violent, and controlling, in this piece the relationship begins to transform. The feminine, though vulnerable and wounded, seeks safety, tenderness, and nurturing. The animus, while still shadowed and monstrous in form, starts to soften, offering her something different — a gradual opening toward protection and care.
The work embodies the paradox of shadow integration: the animus still holds the heart, but the dynamic is evolving. The true path forward lies in self-love — the feminine’s recognition that healing her own heart is what ultimately liberates her from possession. This painting is both a record of that painful entanglement and a threshold toward reconciliation, transformation, and inner wholeness.
