I have visited Rome many times, and a stroll down to the Spanish steps is always a treat. This painting is based on a photo taken at the base of the Spanish steps. It was a hot day as many tourists were milling around, taking advantage of photo opportunities. The painting is reasonably large and took many hours to complete. I have no idea who the figures in the foreground are, and when looking at the painting, I wonder who they are and where they are now. I tried to capture the grandeur of the buildings with a perspective that draws your eye up the steps towards the church at the top.
